History
The earliest record of Windsor’s history dates back to 1873 when J.L. Hilton built a ranch house in between the cities of Greeley and Fort Collins. Known as the Halfway House, this home was used as an inn for travelers who visited these Northern Colorado areas. It was only in 1890 when the area was established as an unincorporated town and called Windsor. During this time, Windsor thrived on its extensive wheat production and established the Windsor Milling and Elevator Company.
After the demand for wheat declined, Windsor shifted to producing sugar beets. The town flourished from the large production of sugar beets, eventually paving the way toward the creation of various commercial buildings, infrastructures, schools, and businesses. Today, the town of Windsor is known for its windmill blade production, recycling facilities, ethanol production, and other environmentally-friendly industries.
